FEATURED ARTIST: KIMBERLY BROOKS

Punk History – Oil on Linen

Kimberly Brooks is an amazing contemporary artist whose work has been showcased in the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, California Institute of the Arts, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), and many others. Her work is a blend of figuration and abstaction, and her oil paintings are bold in both theme and color.  She has researched her materials extensivley, and uses Oil of Spike Lavender each day to wipe down her glass palette.  One of her goals has been to avoid petroleum-based solvents in her work, and you can tell by the picture of her studio that she enjoys a sunlit, healthy painting environment. It is a long way from the stereotypical art studio in the basement of a warehouse.

Kimberly Brooks is well known in artist networks and social media.  Her web site is here: http://www.kimberlybrooks.com/.  It features her paintings, along with information about her various projects, exhibitions and other upcoming events.  She can be found on facebook, instagram, tumblr and twitter. Born in New York, Brooks lives in Los Angeles and maintains her studio in Venice, CA.
