Raw Sienna is certainly one of the oldest pigments in the history of art. Being one of the iron oxides, it has proven to be permanent, lightfast, and durable. Raw Sienna is close to Yellow Ochre in hue, but is somewhat warmer – leaning more to the red shade. It is common to use Raw Sienna as part of a color range on the palette because it is slightly more transparent than other iron oxides.
