Description
Van Dyke Special is a very dark semi-transparent black-brown colour, warmer than the ivory blacks. Sometimes this colour is called cassel brown. Historically, it has been a highly desirered colour, but has had problems. The original Van Dyke Brown, made from brown coal (lignite) had limited lightfastness, was a slow drier, and did not hold up well under heat. However, our Van Dyke Special is far superior – it has better dispersion characteristics and color consistency than the original Van Dyke, and it flows smoothly under the brush.
