Turquoise is a great addition to our range of paints! It really stands out on the palette and on the canvas. Of course, this turqoise paint is not actually made from the gemstone, but is a mix of two phthalo colours and white. The white is necessary to create opaqueness, and the two phthalos must be mixed in the exact quantity necessary for the unique blue-green glow of turquouise. The color turquoise is excellent when used in contrast with deep saturated maroons and yellows – a combination sometimes seen with Native American jewelry. As a note of interest: the word “turquoise” comes from the French turquois for “Turkish” because the mineral was first brought to Europe from Turkey. It was mined in the historical Khorasan Province of Persia, and in North America it has been mined and used since around 200 B.C. by the Hohokam and Anasazi people. CI:Pg7,Pb15:3,Pw6
