The traditional palette was made of wood. The problem with wood is that paints can become absorbed in the wood, and be difficult to clean off. Then came the plastic palette, which did not absorb the paint, but still required cleaning. After cleaning up, there were often rags to be disposed of, resulting in a fire hazard. Safety guidelines indicate that oil soaked rags should be kept in a water-filled tub or bucket to prevent combustion. Enter the paper palette! With a paper palette, you mix your paints on a single coated piece of paper. When you are done at the end of the day, simply fold the paper up and toss it! A much simpler approach.
