Description
Ardoise Slate Grey is a natural earth-mined slate grey from France. Slate Grey for commercial artist paints is often made as a tertiary color – a mix of manufactured purple and green pigments. Historically it has been called Davy’s Grey, French Ardoise Grey, Mineral Grey, Neutral Grey, Steel Grey and Stone Chalk. Slate can be found throughout Europe, although 90% of mined slate now comes from Spain. France has a long cultural history based on slate mining. Depending on where is it mined, slate can be greatly different in color due to varying mineral content. Our slate has high lightfastness, and moderate staining power.
The first recorded use of slate grey as a color name in English was in 1705.
